
The Chairman of the Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), Freeman Mbowe, has been elected as the new Chairman of the Tanzania Centre for Democracy (TCD). His deputy will be the leader of ACT - Wazalendo, Dorothy Semu.
The election took place today during TCDs summit, which included various agendas, one of which was the election of a new chairman. Delegates from Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), ACT - Wazalendo, Chama Cha Wananchi - CUF, and NCCR Mageuzi participated in the meeting.
Mbowe succeeds the outgoing chairman from Chama Cha Wananchi - CUF, Prof. Ibrahim Lipumba. Chadema General Secretary, John Mnyika, on behalf of his Chairman, Freeman Mbowe, was handed and received TCDs constitution.
According to the TCD constitution, these leaders will serve a one-year term.
"The TCD chairmanship rotates among the parties, and now it is CHADEMAs turn to lead. We accept this responsibility at a time when the nation needs free and fair elections. We will prioritize the need to continue uniting parties and stakeholders to ensure the 2024 and 2025 elections are free and fair," said CHADEMA Secretary General, John Mnyika, after the meeting concluded.
